Dr. Cardina's areas of research and academic interest include professional preparation in school and community health education and program evaluation. Her scholarship focuses on the role of teacher certification and professional development to enhance teacher quality. Other contributions to the field of health education include workshops for teachers, staff, and administrators designed enhance their skills related to facilitating health and sexuality education among youth, including individuals with exceptional needs. She has also advocated for comprehensive K-!2 health education at the state and national levels.

Dr. Cardina is a member of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), American School Health Association (ASHA), Eta Sigma Gamma National Health Education Honorary Society (ESG), Society of Health and Physical Education of American (SHAPE America), and New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYS AHPERD).
